The Center for Health Sciences within SRI’s Bioscience Division is seeking a research associate (RA) to work with the research team to carry out several NIH-sponsored research projects studying how the brain changes over time in structure and function with such diseases as alcohol use disorder, HIV infection, and mild cognitive impairment, and with healthy aging. The RA will receive training and hands-on experience in neuroscience, neuropsychology, applied psychology, and physiological measures as part of a dynamic research team doing cutting-edge research.

Responsibilities

The Research Associate (RA) will participate in implementation of research studies designed to assess the effects of alcohol drinking, Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), and HIV infection on brain structure and function relative to unaffected comparison groups. These studies are centered around brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and include clinical, neuropsychological, and physiological assessments. 

 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Recruiting and screening study volunteers
  • Administering and scoring cognitive and motor tests
  • Acquisition of MRI data 
  • The RA will also engage in preclinical modeling studies. For these studies, the RA will participate in the acquisition of physiological, behavioral, and MRI data
  • Data entry, tracking of study progress, and other tasks as required

Qualifications

Position will require compliance with governmental regulations and SRI policies regarding health and safety issues.

 

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS required; major in neuroscience, psychology, or the biological sciences preferred (equivalent combination of skills, education, and experience will be considered.)  
  • New graduates are encouraged to apply
  • An understanding of the principles of sound research design and data collection is an advantage
  • Experience in organizing and implementing multiple complex tasks
  • Comfort with data collection using a variety of computer interfaces
  • Good communication skills within a team environment and with study participants
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience with computer programs, such as Word, Excel, REDCap, and/or other computer interfaces preferred

Preferred qualifications:

  • Applicants with experience with preclinical models will also be given preference
  • Applicants with current phlebotomy license preferred 

This position will require a post offer, pre-laboratory placement physical examination. Employment at SRI is contingent on successful completion of a background check.
