Overview

SRI International has openings for interns at the Princeton, NJ location within the Advanced Technology and Systems Division (ATSD) to support activities ranging from cyber-physical to quantum sensing systems.

The interns will be part of a team of applied physicists and engineers working on research and development (R&D) projects to realize proof-of-concept demonstrations and participate in field tests for government and commercial customers. The work will encompass the full span of design, implementation, and testing of advanced prototype systems. The successful candidates should be ready to work with researchers from a variety of backgrounds and contribute to ongoing research efforts.

ATSD performs R&D across a range of disciplines spanning design through implementation of advanced optical, quantum, radar, and imaging systems, transitioning technology from basic R&D to fieldable prototypes. This work is conducted for a variety of US government clients with applications from basic scientific exploration to national security.

 

The positions will be on-site in our Princeton, NJ office.  Interns can work in either the spring semester or during the summer.

Responsibilities

  • Develop skills and intuition towards the use of novel electromagnetic sensors
  • Collect and analyze data
  • Conduct hands-on prototyping and testing to validate systems and sub-systems
  • Document designs, results, and processes
  • Setup and support lab and field testing
  • Support electronics troubleshooting, design, fabrication/rework
  • Develop software for instrumentation, simulation, and data analysis

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, physics, or other similar disciplines
  • U.S. Citizenship is required due to government requirements

Skills and experience should include multiple of the following:

  • Experience working in a lab environment
  • Programming for analysis, simulation, and instrumentation (Python, MATLAB, C/C++)
  • Hardware troubleshooting
  • Mechanical design and modeling (CAD)
  • Technical knowledge of electronics (circuit design/schematics, soldering, components)
  • Use of common lab test and measurement equipment (oscilloscope, DMM, AWG, etc.)
  • Optical alignment

  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Interest in multiple technical areas

The salary range is: $20-$37/hr. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI's Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program.
