Overview

Help shape the future of technology and society! The Quantum Economic Development Consortium (QED-C®) is an international association managed by SRI with a mission to grow the quantum economy via community-building and collaboration. QED-C is searching for a Technology Policy Intern to work with its Law & Policy Technical Advisory Committee during the summer and/or fall semester 2026. The Intern will work a hybrid schedule (4 days in office, 1 day from home) based at SRI’s office in Arlington, VA.

Responsibilities

The Technology Policy Intern will develop and apply appropriate methodologies to evaluate the effect of salient policy issues on the industry, draft persuasive and evidence-based position papers, monitor and summarize policy documents and relevant legislation, and travel within the National Capital Region to support briefings and in-person events. Applicants are encouraged to define a feasible side project (20% time) and how it will be impactful. The Intern will report to the QED-C Deputy Director with additional direction from QED-C members serving on the policy subcommittee.

Qualifications

  • Current graduate or undergraduate student (rising junior or senior) majoring in Public Policy, Law, Business, Economics, Government, Science and Technology Studies, or another policy-related program. Advanced coursework in science or engineering a plus.
  • Successful candidates must have demonstrated interest in technology policy (preferably around emerging or frontier technologies), strong analytical skills, and proficiency writing for broad audiences.
  • Experience working with a membership-based or volunteer organization.
  • Previous experience in volunteer leadership positions or exposure to quantum information science and technology is desired, but not required.

The salary range is: $20-$38.00/hr. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI's Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program.
